Jessica Long’s path to the pool began far from water. Born Tatiana Olegovna Kirillova in Bratsk, Russia, on February 29, 1992, she had both lower legs amputated before she turned two due to fibular hemimelia. At 13 months old she was adopted by an American family from Baltimore, Maryland, a move that set the stage for a swimming career that would span two decades.
Across six Paralympic Games — 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 — Long built one of the most decorated records in American Paralympic history. She has collected 31 career Paralympic medals, 18 of them gold, placing her second only to Trischa Zorn among all-time American Paralympians, as recognized by Team USA. Her résumé also includes 54 World Championships medals and four ESPY Awards, a body of work built across continents and competitive eras.
Outside the pool, Long has carried that story into new arenas as an author, keynote speaker, and disability advocate. On Instagram, where she is verified as @jessicatatianalong and followed by roughly 115,000 people, she describes herself simply: an ‘18x Paralympic champion, Author, Keynote Speaker, Advocate’ — a short line for a long career still being documented through her official channels and public appearances.
