Born on 23 June 2000 in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, Kapil Parmar competes in the men’s -60kg J1 judo category, a classification for athletes with vision impairment. His career reached its defining moment at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, where he defeated Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira 10-0 via ippon in the bronze medal bout, becoming the first Indian to ever win a Paralympic medal in judo.

The Paris bronze capped a steady rise through international para-judo. Parmar had previously won gold at the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships, silver at the 2022 Asian Para Games, bronze at the 2023 World Games, and gold at the 2023 IBSA Judo Grand Prix in Alexandria — a run of results that established him among the sport’s top competitors in his weight class well before his Paralympic breakthrough.

Parmar’s training has been based at the Indian Para Judo Academy in Lucknow, where he works under coach Munawar Anzar Ali Siddiqui. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he received India’s Arjuna Award in 2024, one of the country’s highest sporting honors, specifically for his achievements in Para-Judo.
